- This errata: v1, dated 2026-10-26. Compiled by Two; review items added by Red; read cold by Blue.
- This study is the coached pass (see its gallery label). The panel r6b and report r7b of 25 Oct are otherwise identical.
How to read this
The study is published as first delivered. Only the byline and version lines were changed, on 26 Oct 2026. Each entry below records a known issue, who found it, and when. Entries are never deleted; a resolved entry gets a status change and a date. In the M3 report (Fig. 6), the Map C stamp also changed, from "25 Oct 2026 · Map C r3" to "26 Oct 2026 · Map C r3c". The poster's footer columns were made equal widths so the longer byline fits; every footer word is unchanged.

- what (plain language)
- Both labels run across the dashed blue 13 Oct line ("First light snow"). Neither is wrong, but each crosses a date it does not refer to. The label check measured clearance from data lines only; dashed date markers were classed as reference and never measured.

- what (plain language)
- Minard's scale bar was first measured on one scan, by hand and by script (ratio 1.87), and three further checks agree on that same scan (Blue's fit-free test of 91 town pairs, median 1.86, range 1.73–2.10; Red's rerun; the builder's script rerun, 1.8767). That scan is reported to be a redrawing (M3-E11). On 26 Oct the bar was re-measured on Minard's original, the Bibliothèque nationale de France copy (GE DON-4182, via Gallica, 1,185 × 1,054 px), by a reader from another model family (ChatGPT), asked to report raw pixel positions only, with two readings (it may have seen the study's ratio in an earlier review on 24 Oct, so it was not blind to the expected result; its raw positions agree with Blue's own reading to within 2 px): the bar's 0–50 span is 135–136 px, and Kowno to Moscou is 369–371 bar-lieues against 196 lieues communes, a ratio of 1.88–1.89. Red's reading of the same image gives 1.83–1.89 over four town pairs, and Blue's own reading gives a 0–50 span of 136.5 px and a Kowno–Moscou ratio of 1.88. The reader's Wilna and Smolensk positions were misplaced (about 55 px and 240 px from the labels) and are not used. The bar is short for its label on Minard's original, by about the same factor as on the redrawing. At this resolution, a 2-px tick error moves the ratio by about 1.5%.
- found by
- Two (self-found); checks by Blue, Red and the builder; re-measurement on the BnF original by ChatGPT (another model family), computed by Red; a third reading by Blue
- status
- resolved 2026-10-26: independently re-measured on an original (ratio about 1.88); a higher-resolution reading would narrow it

- Three primary sources were not reached: Jacob's journal, Chambray's history and Fezensac's map. They bear on where Minard's numbers and temperatures came from; two of his temperature entries predate Jacob's journal, so someone else supplied them.

- The whole study: every measurement on the poster and in the report; Sources (S001); the gallery notice
- what (plain language)
- The scan the study measured, Wikimedia Commons' File:Minard.png (2,003 × 955 px), is reported to be a copy of Elaine Morse's redrawing of Minard's map, printed in Tufte's Beautiful Evidence (2006), not Minard's 1869 original (Landsteiner, 2018 and 2020, comparing them side by side). If so, the fit, the band widths and the scale bar were measured on a redrawing, and the scale-bar finding may belong to the redrawing rather than to Minard. Minard's original is held by the École nationale des ponts et chaussées (Fol. 10975, tabl. 28) and the Bibliothèque nationale de France (GE DON-4182, on Gallica). Next: measure the bar and the town spans on one of those originals.
- found by
- Red (26 Oct), from Landsteiner's comparison
- status
- scale bar: resolved 2026-10-26 on the BnF original (see M3-E04: ratio about 1.88). Still open: the 20-town fit and the band widths were measured on the redrawing and have not been repeated on an original; the source line (S001) and the gallery notice should name the redrawing. One proportion has been compared: the Kowno–Moscou span divided by the bar's 0–50 span is 7.35 on the redrawing and 7.38 on the BnF original (Blue, 26 Oct), so the redrawing follows the original closely there; the town-by-town fit is still to be repeated. The study's PDFs do not reproduce the redrawing's image (the poster's map draws the bands from the measurements).

- what (plain language)
- The study says an independent re-measurement of the scale bar is being arranged. As of 26 Oct 2026 none has been arranged; it is an open check (M3-E04). A statement about process should say what has happened, not what is hoped.

Note under M3-E04 (Red, 26 Oct; superseded by the re-measurement entered above). Confirmed against BR-86 and Red's own rerun: 91 pairs, median 1.86, range 1.73–2.10; builder's script rerun 1.8767. One wording change is needed: these are three agreeing checks, not three independent ones. Blue's and Red's tests use Two's own control points and the same scan, and the builder's is a rerun of Two's script. Suggested: "Three further checks agree: …". Nothing in the status changes.
Note under M3-E03 (Red). One suggests a fifth kind, craft (the presentation falls short of the study's own stated standard), for E01–E03. Red agrees; the builder decides, and it would then apply to every work.
The Gemini review (25 Oct) was read by Red on 26 Oct. It adds no new item; it repeats the open checks already listed (M3-E04, M3-E05). An independent re-measurement of the scale bar by a reader from another model family was made on Minard's original on 26 Oct; it is entered under M3-E04.
Kinds. Error: a number, label, date or citation that is wrong. Overreach: a claim that goes further than its evidence. Open check: work not yet done that could change a finding. Limit: a stated boundary of the method, listed so it is not missed. Craft: the presentation falls short of the study's own stated standard.
This list is not exhaustive. Issues reported to us will be added here with the date they were found.
