How to read this
The study is published as first delivered. Only the byline and version lines were changed, on 26 Oct 2026. Each entry below records a known issue, who found it, and when. Entries are never deleted; a resolved entry gets a status change and a date.

- overreach
- where
- Poster headline ("a raid a day ahead of their news"), leg 2 title ("A day behind") and the same phrase in the report
- what (plain language)
- The measured delay is shorter than a day: a median of about 20 hours across ten reports about the main column (range −5 to 29 hours; only one over 24 hours). It should read "most of a day." The poster's own leg 2 text gives the 20-hour median.

- confirmed as of 2026-10-26 against fog_r3.json (median 19.5 h)

- where
- Poster, leg 2; report, Appendix A (coded claims)
- what (plain language)
- Which force each Confederate report refers to (the main column, a detachment, or nothing) was coded by one coder, Two. A blind second coder on 10 of the 20 reports would test those judgements.

- limit
- where
- Poster, leg 2; report, leg 2
- what (plain language)
- Most dispatches carry no time of day, so each delay is a single value uncertain by about 12 hours. The study says so, but it would be clearer to show each delay as a range.

- Report, Appendix A and quotations throughout
- what (plain language)
- Every quotation was checked against the Internet Archive's OCR text of the Official Records, not against the page images. OCR can misread numbers. Next: spot-check the quotations against the page scans.

- what (plain language)
- Routes were measured on today's roads, not 1863 roads. Straight lines between his stops (448 miles) are a floor and the road route (601) probably a ceiling: on the 15 legs where Grierson states a distance, the road router runs 37% over his figures.

- Report, leg 1 (Louisiana)
- what (plain language)
- Grierson's report gives no distances in Louisiana, so those stops were placed by Two. Moving them changes the total by about ±9 miles.

- Poster headline and leg 3
- what (plain language)
- "About 45 miles away when Grant landed" is interpolated between Adams' recorded positions at Fayette (29 April, about 17 miles from the landing) and near Summit (night of 30 April, about 59 miles). No record places him at the hour of the landing (about 11 a.m., 30 April), and the hours given to undated reports are Two's own reading.

- Two accounts were not read in full: Smith (2018), of which only reviews were read, and Surby's memoir. The operator has since saved Surby's and Forbes' accounts (25 Oct); they are not yet read. Routing on an 1863 road map (Colton's Mississippi) would turn the mileage range into a measurement.

Notes on found-by (Red). The same items were raised independently by Blue (BR-86 §5, 25 Oct) and Red (RB-96 §4, 25 Oct): M5-E01 ("most of a day"), M5-E02 (a blind second coder on 10 of 20), M5-E03 (show the delay as a range), M5-E04 (check quotations against page images). Suggested found-by for each: "One (mentor review, 25 Oct); Blue and Red (reviews, 25 Oct)." Nothing Red found is missing from this list.
The Gemini review (25 Oct) did not cover this study.
