Regulators extend exam cycles for about 188 more community banks

Developing Confirmed

Regulators have made about 188 more community banks eligible to be examined every 18 months instead of every 12. An interim final rule from the Federal Reserve, FDIC and Comptroller of the Currency carries out the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which doubled the asset limit for the longer cycle from $3 billion to $6 billion. Only well-managed, well-capitalized, low-risk banks qualify, and regulators will keep monitoring them between exams. The Independent Community Bankers of America, which backed it, put the number of eligible institutions at 4,016. The rule took effect on publication, with 30 days for comment.
