The gauges behind San Diego County's flood warnings

Developing Confirmed

Sept. 23, 2026 — San Diego County's flood warnings start at a Weather Center in Kearny Mesa run by the County Flood Control District. It is the hub of ALERT, a network of rain and stream gauges across the county that tracks rainfall, river levels and streamflow, and sends early warnings to downstream communities when readings point to flooding. In February, the County filed plans to reactivate two gauges, on the San Luis Rey River and San Felipe Creek, and add four more, on Pine Valley, Pala, Padre Barona and Santa Maria creeks. Whether they will be working before the rainy season was not stated. The district also maintains stormwater drainage and manages the countywide floodplain.

The wall: Whether the new and reactivated gauges are in service was not stated.
