Update: national financial literacy strategy sets four priorities, new working groups
Oct. 2, 2026 — This updates our notice on the CFPB's support for the new national financial literacy strategy. The strategy, approved Sept. 18 by the federal Financial Literacy and Education Commission, which the Treasury secretary chairs and the CFPB director vice-chairs, sets four priorities: youth financial skills, saving and investing, digital financial literacy, and scam and fraud education. It creates a working group for each and promotes Trump Accounts and TrumpIRA.gov. The strategy cites Federal Trade Commission data that consumers reported losing more than $15.9 billion to fraud in 2025, up 24%, and says 30 states now require a personal finance course for high school graduation, up from five in 2020.
The wall: How the working groups will be staffed or funded is not stated; the commission's annual SAFE report, expected later this year, is to detail agencies' actions.
Tier: Confirmed (based on the national strategy and the CFPB's announcement)
