Update: WHO raises its Yemen health appeal to $31 million as cholera cases triple

Update Reported

Oct. 7, 2026 — This updates our Oct. 6 report on Yemen's war. The World Health Organization raised its immediate funding need for Yemen from $9 million to $31 million, plus $700,000 for refugees in Djibouti, as fighting in Lahj, Taiz and Marib strains hospitals. Yemeni health authorities reported 959 deaths and 4,207 injuries across 10 governorates as of Oct. 2, WHO said. Cholera cases have tripled in three weeks, and fewer than 1% of nearly 198,000 displaced people had received health services as of last week.

The wall: Which authorities compiled the casualty count, and whether it covers both sides of the front, was not stated.

Tier: Reported (based on UN News' account of WHO's statement)
