Oct. 9, 2026 — This updates our Oct. 8 report on Hurricane Isaias. Isaias, a Category 3 hurricane with 115 mph winds, was expected to make landfall on the western Florida Panhandle on the evening of Oct. 9, the National Hurricane Center said. At 5 p.m. ET it was about 90 miles south of Pensacola, moving north at 17 mph; Fox Weather, citing the center, said landfall was expected around 9 p.m. ET between Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach.
The center forecast a peak storm surge of 6 to 9 feet above ground from the Alabama-Florida line to Grayton Beach, Fla., 4 to 6 feet from Dauphin Island to the state line, and 3 to 5 feet in lower Mobile Bay, with 4 to 8 inches of rain and up to 15 inches in places. It said Isaias would weaken after landfall and cross Alabama on Oct. 10. Mobile, Ala., set a curfew from 7 p.m. Oct. 9 to 6 a.m. Oct. 10, and more than 100,000 Florida customers had lost power by early evening, Fox Weather reported.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey issued a second supplemental state of emergency on Oct. 9. The Department of Veterans Affairs said its national emergency teams were activated and urged veterans in the warning areas to refill prescriptions early.
