UN chief proposes a $3.3 billion budget for 2027, 1.2% below this year

Developing Reported

Oct. 13, 2026 — UN Secretary-General António Guterres proposed a $3.3 billion programme budget for 2027, $40.8 million or 1.2% below this year, to the General Assembly's budget committee, UN News reported. The Secretariat has absorbed a cut of 3,116 regular budget posts, he said, and efficiency gains alone will not end the UN's liquidity crisis without timely payment of dues.
