WFP cuts food aid in Gaza by about a third, affecting some 500,000 people as winter nears
Oct. 20, 2026 — Funding shortages have forced the World Food Programme to cut its food assistance in Gaza by roughly one third, affecting some 500,000 people as winter approaches, UN News reported. WFP is supporting 1.1 million people this month, down from 1.6 million in September, and families now receive one food parcel instead of two, the agency said. About 67% of Gazans, an estimated 1.4 million people, face crisis-level food insecurity or worse. WFP said it needs $450 million to sustain operations in Gaza and the West Bank through next March.
