Developing Reported

Oct. 28, 2026 — Unsheltered homelessness in California fell about 7.3% in the 37 regions that conducted new counts this year, according to preliminary data released by Gov. Gavin Newsom's office. Across all 44 regions, the state estimates unsheltered homelessness fell 6.5% and total homelessness 3.4% from reported 2025 figures, the office said. The statewide estimate combines the new counts with the last counts from seven regions that did not count this year. The office said unsheltered homelessness is now slightly below 2019 levels. Federal figures for 2026 have not been released.
