Update: Missile hits Riyadh airport's domestic terminals; people wounded, flights halted

Update Reported

This story has been updated: Update: Riyadh airport strike killed 13 and wounded more than 300; Houthis claim it as new attacks hit two airports Oct. 11, 2026

Oct. 10, 2026 — This updates our Oct. 6 report on Yemen's war. A missile struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, hitting the complex that houses terminals 3 and 4, used for domestic flights, the Associated Press reported, citing a regional official who said "many people were wounded." Saudi Arabia's civil aviation authority said the attack injured several people and that officials were still determining the number, Al Jazeera reported. A hospital source told Euronews that dozens were hurt, at least five of them in intensive care. No deaths were reported.

Airport operations were suspended through midnight, and at least 291 flights were canceled over 24 hours, according to FlightAware. The United States, Britain, Germany, Australia and Canada advised their citizens to avoid the airport, the AP reported.

The Houthis made no immediate statement on the strike; they accused Saudi Arabia of hitting Sanaa International Airport in Yemen earlier that day, the AP reported. They claimed earlier attacks on the airport, including a ballistic missile strike on Oct. 8, when Saudi authorities said three Saudi citizens, among them a Saudia pilot, were killed. Saudi authorities have warned that filming or sharing information about missile and drone impact sites carries legal liability.

Asked whether the United States would join strikes on the Houthis, President Trump said: "We may. We're going to look at it," according to the AP.

The wall: The number of wounded, whether anyone died, and who fired the missile were not confirmed at publication.

Tier: Reported (based on the AP, Al Jazeera and Euronews accounts; Saudi figures are partial)
